The Animals in Lubbock
Lubbock
On July 7, 1966, the Animals played the Municipal Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas, supporting the headliners Herman's Hermits -- then at their American peak -- on a package tour. It was, though not billed as such, the last American summer of the original Animals: Eric Burdon, Hilton Valentine, Barry Jenkins, Chas Chandler and the rest had privately decided to split, and by that autumn the group was gone, Burdon soon reassembling a new lineup as Eric Burdon and the Animals. A short, fierce twenty-odd-minute set in West Texas, near the end of something.
Verification Notes
Antagonist-checked. CORRECTED: Herman's Hermits HEADLINED (US peak); the Animals were SUPPORT -- brief reversed it. NOT a marketed "farewell tour" but genuinely the last US tour of the original lineup (split by Sept 1966; Burdon formed Eric Burdon & the Animals Dec 1966). The McCoys were NOT on this package. UNABLE-TO-CONFIRM: exact Coliseum (Municipal likely); Lubbock setlist/poster. date high (bill); med (venue name).
