The Who at Lido Beach

On July 7, 1967, the Who played the Malibu Beach & Shore Club at Lido Beach on Long Island, New York -- not California, despite the name -- in second billing on a multi-act bill, a surviving ticket stub the primary evidence for the night. It fell about three weeks after their American breakout at Monterey Pop, where they had smashed their equipment to a stunned crowd, and the night before a show at the Village Theater in Manhattan. A band at the hinge between English curiosity and American force.

Verification Notes

Antagonist-checked. VERIFIED: Who at Malibu Beach & Shore Club, Lido Beach Long Island NY (NOT Malibu CA), 7/7/67, 2nd billing (ticket stub); ~3 wks post-Monterey; next night 7/8 Village Theater NYC. UNABLE-TO-CONFIRM: headliner/co-bill and setlist -- genuinely undocumented, not filled in. date high.
